It was founded in the year 1541 by Marshal Jorge Robledo, a military man from Spain arriving from the Province of Popayán, in his eagerness to declare this territory part of the Spanish Crown, aspired to put the colonial imprint on its architecture, which is still intact, thanks to the inhabitants of its own population.
